Motorola Wearable Computers are used to increase worker productivity by freeing up a user so he use both hands to perform his tasks. For instance, pickers in a warehouse use wearable computers which allow them to grab an item and place it in a carton without feeling constrained by having one hand hold onto a handheld computer.
A wearable setup consists of two components: the wearable terminal and the ring scanner. The wearable terminal is essentially a mobile computer with features like a display, processor, memory, keyboard, WLAN connectivity (802.11) and operating system, while the ring scanner contains technology for scanning barcodes. These two components can be connected together with a cable, or wirelessly with Bluetooth. The two ring scanners from Zebra are shown in the table below:
